The majority of Christians in the United States are not true believers in their holy-book (in my opinion). They ignore large portions of the book or refer to them as 'metaphor'. A true believer in Christianity should know the Bible inside and out; but that is far from the case, in-fact atheists tend to be more familiar with it. The majority of Christians cherry-pick the nice sounding verses and ignore the unpleasant/primitive ones.
When I first seen Shirley Phelps-Roper on YouTube, I remember at first being disgusted by the incredible hate this person is responsible for. But on the other-hand, it is funny how uncomfortable she makes 'casual believers' feel (more-so then an atheist discussing religion would). In these videos, they (people whom claim to be Christian themselves) refer to her as being "evil" and "sick". Which is a beautiful thing, because she is basing her (and her church's) hate off scripture. When a nonbeliever quotes the nasty/hateful parts of the book, 'casual believers' write it off, but when a Christian actually talks the talk and walks the walk, they are viewed as being 'evil' by other — less dedicated believers. Personally, if I believed that the Bible was a guide to eternal paradise, I would follow it word-for-word as well.
Many Christians claim that the Bible is their source of morality, and the only source of morality. Shirley Phelps-Roper is a perfect example for why that is not the case. While she is a bigot, she is a product of religion.
Shirley Roper is a cunt that should have never been born. She is the devil in a woman's body it to bad burning at the stake had been banned because i would buy the gas and light the match to set this bitch on fire at no cost to the tax payer....
ReplyDeleteThe bible is highly symbolic and is not to be followed by the letter, but but hidden spiritual meaning. For those who have read the bible, have read passages concerning this. Most notably is the verse that says we "speak that not what man's wisdom teaches, but what the Holy Ghost teaches comparing spiritual things with spiritual",and again "we speak the hidden wisdom of God in a mystery which was ordained for our glory", for we have "eyes" to see the hidden, spiritual truth of the word of God. There are many who don't realize that faith alone in Jesus is sufficient for salvation. Christians can do whatever they please as long as they have faith in Christ. However, the natural mind cannot understand this because it requires revelation from the Holy Spirit through faith. Those who are without believe we must live by certain rules in the flesh and walk in hate and judgment teaching things they ought not about the bible. Man cannot see the wisdom of God, unless he chooses to reveal it to them, if he don't they remain blind walking in unbelief, hate, and judgmental attitudes in ignorance of the holy scripture persecuting those who know the truth, according to scripture.

ReplyDeleteIn your opinion.
I don't recall anywhere in the bible where it says to interpret it as metaphor. You don't like the bible, you try to logically construct it as being spiritually enlightening, when in reality it is a violent load of crap.
Do not think that I have come to do away with the Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets. I have not come to do away with them, but to make their teachings come true. Remember that as long as heaven and earth last, not the least point nor the smallest detail of the Law will be done away - not until the end of all things. So then, whoever disobeys even the least important of the commandments and teaches other to do the same, will be least in the Kingdom of heaven. -Matthew 4:17-20 GNB
See, I can quote verses as well. Metaphor is the romantics way of saving the bible from cultural death.
