Atheism is a religion!? (response to shockofgod)

What a joke. Atheism is not a religion, and anyone that believes such a thing is an idiot. Atheism is the lack of a belief in deities, it doesn't matter if some moron claims that it is a religion, it doesn't make it so. Like many of his kind, shockofgod follows one confirmation-bias after another. When there is an idea that he believes/hopes to be true, he ignores all information that goes against it. On the other hand when he finds some information that (in his mind) confirms his beliefs (like unintelligent-atheists not understanding the definition of a word), he grasps onto it and thinks "LOOK, I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG!".

"My problem with atheism is that it is faith in nothing"

I  find that argument so blissfully-ignorant that it is almost refreshing. I'm beating a dead horse, I know, but to not believe in a deity does not take faith. It's like claiming that it takes faith to not believe in unicorns.  Shockofgod understands very well the weaknesses of his side of the argument, and it's pathetic the way he tries to apply those weakness to atheism (obviously he fails miserably, making an ass out of himself).

Many of the scientific claims in the bible (God's word) have been debunked by science, so obviously science supports atheism (an all-knowing god would know the world was round, and disease was caused by sin, obviously). On the other hand, science has done nothing to support the existence of any deity.

Atheism is the default position, the main reason it slips into the human-mind is through the indoctrination (brainwashing) of children. Keep in mind, children will also easily believe in tooth-fairies and boogie-men (or really anything that seeps into their imagination), so religion is easy for them to accept as fact, and if nobody tells them the truth, they will hold onto that belief into adulthood. Children believe anything/everything they are told (especially if it is by a perceived authority figure), they are like sponges, and like much information children absorb, so will a sponge soak up shit.

Guy Claims Atheists are Pro-Rape.

"most brutal crime that humanity can think of" (talking about rape)

No, rape is not the most brutal crime humanity can think of. Let me find one that is worse, where to look for brutal crimes agaisnt humanity...

oh right!

The Bible!

Babylon, you will be destroyed. Happy are those who pay you back for what you have done to us-- who take your babies and smash them against a rock. -Psalms 137:8-9

Well that wasn't very hard to find.....
----------------------------------------------------------------

"because I know that after this life I've got somewhere better to go"

Lying is a sin. Assuming this guy is a human, it seems that this must be a lie, because it doesn't seem humans know what happens to them after death because for the moment knowing such things are impossible. But, maybe I'm wrong, maybe this guy has super-amazing telepathic/perceptual abilities (or maybe he is just a douche).
-----------------------------------------------------------------

I want to address part the description in this video which is your typical moronic anti-atheist propagada.

WARNING: This video contains atheistic beliefs that the vast majority of mature, intelligent human beings find shocking, moronic, irrational, and morally repugnant -- parental discretion is advised.

The atheist's animal-level view of "morality" is completely skewed by dint of its total subjectivity. In fact, the atheist makes up his own personal version of "morals" as he goes along, and this video provides an eye-opening example of this bizarre phenomenon of the atheist's crippled psyche:

The person responsible for putting this video up on YouTube claims that there are atheistic beliefs. It is stupid, nonsensical propaganda like this that is very frustrating. There are no atheistic beliefs! Atheism is the natural stance to take because belief in a god/gods is not innate. We know that a belief in God (which is the contextually relevant deity) is not innate because the majority of humans don't believe in that god.

Atheism is the standard/default position—it takes indoctrination, and a ranting pedophile to remove this natural skepticism (too mean?). There are no "atheist morals" because atheism is not a moral system. Anyone that claims atheism is a moral system is a complete idiot. It takes mind-bending stupidity to believe such a thing, which is why I can't be nice about this. Atheism is nothing more than a non-belief in a god and/or gods. Atheism is the default position, and it does not carry any other beliefs. While many atheists may share other common beliefs/stances, that does not mean they are connected. Utilitarianism has nothing to do with atheism, they are mutually exclusive. This is why I dislike atheists claiming moral positions under the banner of atheism—this causes simple-minded people to become confused and believe that atheism is a moral-system.

Christian Rages Agaisnt Atheism.

I love when Christians get upset with atheism like this. Deep in the back of this guy's mind he is afraid that atheists are right (about there being no God). It seems fairly obvious that the stories told in the Bible are not based in reality. Atheists don't have all the answers, but they are much closer to the truth than a Christian is. Atheism is nothing (as he says), and this is because atheism is the lack of belief; atheism is not nor should it ever be considered a system of morality, ethics, life-meaning, etc. Atheism is a belief in the same way that not believing in a flat earth is. I believe in a few 100 years being an atheist will be meaningless because there will be very few believers, and the label itself die off.

To believe in magic is so 1000 years ago.

ZOMGitsCriss: Pot Not Evil

Marajuana should be legal. Some people need a method of unwinding at the end of the day; the world would be a better place if people smoked weed instead of drinking alcohol. I don't smoke marijuana, but I think marijuana legalization would be beneficial for society (pot is less harmful than alcohol). They also say that marijuana is a gate-way drug, but it is only a gate-way drug because people have to attain it illegally. Once a person begins to associate themselves with a drug dealer, it becomes much easier for them to move onto more dangerous drugs.

"Atheists are Arrogant and Ignorant!"

This guy misses the point of the term 'atheist'. Atheism does not require a person to believe anything, only to not believe in theism. It's irritating when atheists try to make atheism something more than it is. Atheism is not a belief system! An "atheistic view" is a view of the world free of a belief in a god. Some atheists try to turn atheism into a belief system because they have ideas kicking around in their head, and label themselves as an "atheist", so they try to associate the two. In-fact, the term 'atheist' should only be used when religion is being discussed, like Sam Harris says, we don't refer to people that don't believe in astrology as non-astrologers.
