Girl beaten to death in the name of God

Such a sad story. Using pain to teach a child how to behave is disgusting. Christians claim that humans are special, yet many of them treat their own children like animals. If there was a God (there isn't), why would people believe that he would want children to be beaten? Where do such f@%ked up ideas come from? Thinking about all of this hurts my brain. The Christian worldview (I know not all Christians abuse their children) is not easy to comprehend—due to all the warped aspects of it. What is it about religion that makes people want to hurt other people? Is it the paranoia caused by a judgmental, psychopathic god along with the fear of demons and hell? Probably.

  1. I think it would be more accurate to say that MOST (99.99%) Christians don't abuse their children. The god you talk about is the vengeful god of the Hebrews, not the God of Love I understand. The same vengeful god that taught "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth", rather than "turning the other cheek". Christ said that children should not be hurt under any circumstances, and that people that do such things (including sexual abuse) are the lowest of the low and would be better off drowning themselves than expecting to be able to live with us normal people.
If you're going to knock a faith, then at least get it right. Christ's teachings are about love and forgiveness. It's dogma, St Paul (the misogynist closeted homophobe) and ancient Hebraic teachings that teach anything else, that has 'warped' the true Christian ethic and moral position.

  2. "Do not think that I have come to do away with the Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets. I have not come to do away with them, but to make their teachings come true. Remember that as long as heaven and earth last, not the least point nor the smallest detail of the Law will be done away - not until the end of all things. So then, whoever disobeys even the least important of the commandments and teaches other to do the same, will be least in the Kingdom of heaven." -Matthew 4:17-20 GNB

  3. Ah yes, the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets. Can't recall the law from Moses about hating gays or beating children. Most of those come from Leviticus/Numbers/Deuteronomy, and neither are any of these the teachings of the prophets.
    Nice try, though.

  4. Ah yes. Which law of Moses says beat your children and hate gay people? Indeed, the prophets aren't that keen on that kind of behaviour either. I believe the Hebraic laws laid down in Leviticus/Numbers/Deuteronomy are NOT the teaching of the prophets. They were laws designed by ignorant men to keep people down-trodden and in fear.

  5. "And as soon as he came near the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses' anger burned hot, and he threw the tables out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it upon the water, and made the people of Israel drink it. And Moses said to Aaron, "What did this people do to you that you have brought a great sin upon them?" And Aaron said, "Let not the anger of my lord burn hot; you know the people, that they are set on evil. For they said to me, 'Make us gods, who shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.' And I said to them, 'Let any who have gold take it off'; so they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and there came out this calf." And when Moses saw that the people had broken loose (for Aaron had let them break loose, to their shame among their enemies), then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Who is on the LORD's side? Come to me." And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. And he said to them, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel, 'Put every man his sword on his side, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.'" And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. And Moses said, "Today you have ordained yourselves for the service of the LORD, each one at the cost of his son and of his brother, that he may bestow a blessing upon you this day." -Exodus 32:19-29 RSV

  6. Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling; and do it with a sincere heart, as though you were serving Christ. Do this not only when they are watching you, because you want to gain their approval; but with all your heart do what God wants, as slaves of Christ. -Ephesians 6:5-6

  7. Now large crowds were traveling with Jesus. He turned and said to them, "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, as well as his own life, he can't be my disciple. -Luke 14:25-26

  9. "They attacked Midian just as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they killed all the men. All five of the Midianite kings – Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba – died in the battle. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. Then the Israelite army captured the Midianite women and children and seized their cattle and flocks and all their wealth as plunder. They burned all the towns and villages where the Midianites had lived. After they had gathered the plunder and captives, both people and animals, they brought them all to Moses and Eleazar the priest, and to the whole community of Israel, which was camped on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River, across from Jericho.

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp. But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle. "Why have you let all the women live?" he demanded. "These are the very ones who followed Balaam's advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves". -Numbers 31:7-18 NLT

  10. Quote from:
Exodus; not a 'law of Moses' (which are the 10 commandments)
Numbers; a story, not a law of Moses
Letter to the Ephesians: not from Jesus.
Luke; probably a mistranslation, but as I'm not a Greek scholar, I couldn't say for sure.

  11. "Do not think that I have come to do away with the Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets. I have not come to do away with them, but to make their teachings come true."

All the quotes were to show that Jesus supported the teachings of the old testament prophets and that Moses was a disgusting person. I'm sorry if you disagree :)

Moses murdering everyone except for the virgin females (which he had his men keep as sex slaves) is teaching through example (thus making it a teaching from a prophet).
