age =/= truth

Christians, Muslims, and Jews are entrenched in old beliefs which are 'sacred' merely for the fact that they are old. It is age which makes a virgin birth and a talking snake more believable; it is age which makes Mohammad's intercourse with a 9 year old child morally justifiable; it is the age of the Torah which allow Jews to believe that genocide is okay if it engaged by 'God's people' at a particular point in history. Why is it that certain old-world-views are perceived as being sacred and closed-off to internal criticism? Why do Christians (excluding the fake, cultural "Believers") believe in virgin births, but don't believe in Joseph Smith's story of golden plates and Jesus' visit to America? Why is Jesus visiting America any more irrational than him being born of a virgin and resurrected after being crucified? What makes modern religions like Scientology a cult (in the eyes of outsiders); but the Catholic church with their weekly meetings, fake blood drinking, and repetitive chants not?

Why does age = truth; or in other words, why is old superstitious beliefs and tradition viewed as good by society, but new ones are evil? Is it the mere passing of superstition and delusion from one generation to another that makes it okay culturally? Is it the close-mindedness of those whom inherited their parents' belief in the absurd (what an oxymoron)? Perhaps I am wrong but I think it is neither of these which are the primary driving force. I believe it is more of the fear of social-rejection and hellfire which allows the perpetuation of these out-dated beliefs; fear of what will come to them if they dabble in alternative worldviews, regardless of what they may be. It is why new world-views (views that are at odds with the old) are "EVIL" and "WRONG". Ideas like Evolution are wrong merely by the fact that they are new, and more importantly: at odds with old-beliefs. It is stubborn close-mindedness that allows old ridiculous ideas to be viewed as truth, and, at the same time, walls-off all ideas which contradict them (with a pinch of fear).

In closing, if age does indeed = truth, and lack of age = it's falsity, then this computer shouldn't be working at all; and by this logic we are fools for believing we evolved. Perhaps we should give up trying to objectively understand this world, maybe we should all kill each other to see who has the most powerful imaginary friend.
