There are some fucked up people in the world. What they did goes completely against our biological wiring. I believe that all of the people who knew about this abuse should be punished as accessories. They knew of the crime, and could have prevented it. They were obligated to prevent it (by law), and covered it up by doing nothing and allowing the baby to be severely tortured and killed. New laws need to be put in place to give a severe punishment to those who know of child abuse but don't report it. I also believe that the death penalty should be changed as well. For crimes in which pain was inflicted an amount of pain 5 times greater (as far as time) should be administered. Pain is the ultimate form of punishment, and I believe it is not being utilized as it should be. Death row inmates, for example, get out of horrendous crimes by being executed painlessly. There are chemicals that can be injected into a person that creates the sensation of pain, without doing actual damage. This should be used in all violent crimes. The coziness of prison life is not much of a deterrent, this would be.
