Obama Backs Mosque Near Ground Zero (YouTube)
I agree with Obama on the point that everyone should be free to practice their religion. However the Muslims motives in having their mosque built in that particular location seems suspect to say the least. Especially after the public outcry against it. It seems obvious (to me at least) that they are looking to send a message, otherwise they would simply relocate to another location to avoid the drama. Another reason that I am against the construction of this mosque is that it will be a target of terrorism. While many Americans would not see an attack against this building as "terrorism" it certainty would be. While this analogy is probably not all that politically correct, and I am not claiming that Muslims are bigots (even though many of them are)—building a mosque near Ground Zero is like the KKK building a headquarters in the middle of Harlem. I use this analogy because if the KKK were to do this, their motives would appear malicious, and conflict would seem inevitable. While everyone should have rights in this country, a mosque should not be built that close to the site were all those people died. If those victims were killed by people that just so happen to be Muslim, my position would be different. 9/11 happened because of the belief system—they perhaps had a violent version of Islam—some Muslims are peaceful (I think).
It's sad how those that are against the building of the mosque are thought of as being intolerant...
(Debate over the Mosque)
We should not be forced to be tolerant towards those that refuse to be tolerant towards us. Respect is a two-way street. It's clear that the Muslims who want this mosque built do not respect the victims of those who took Islam a bit too seriously. We as a country may have to learn the hard way that we can't be overly tolerant: doing that will cause a naivety which will lead to us getting bit in the ass by those who don't need to live-up to such politically correct standards.
I recall a video of a Muslim, in New York City, who was being interviewed. He states that as a Muslim he is "commanded to terrorize the disbelievers". Well here, check it out for yourself...
I don't care what belief system you have, you do not have the right to 'terrorize' those that don't believe in your goofy ideas. The guy in this video is a traitor to this country and the secular values it was built on. I believe anyone who makes treasonous statements (like supporting 9/11) should be punished for doing so. I suppose drawing cartoons of Muhammad is hate-speech, but supporting those that murdered thousands and believe that more terrorism should come to 'nonbelievers' is not.
