Atheist Church: Abortion and Murder (YouTube's klfly)
I'm one of those rare pro-life atheists. Well, pro-life is most cases. I believe abortion is morally justifiable in cases of mental retardation (as well as certain extreme cases physical retardation) and rape. However, when conception is an "accident", a person should not be able to get an abortion. The woman who has an "accident" should have to deal with the consequences of her actions. Of course she should have the choice to put the baby up for adoption immediately after birth, but she should not have the choice for whether the baby lives or dies. I believe that adoption centers should also get more funding, and more advertising for public awareness should be done.
This is a difficult subject, but it is a subject atheists should actually think about, and their own conclusions should be made. I feel many atheists go along with the stance of liberal political figures and famous atheists, and don't actually think about the issue themselves. Many atheists see liberals as supporting an issue, and die-hard Christians opposing it, and automatically side with the liberals. Christians have the right view on abortion, but for what I view as the wrong philosophical reasons.
The moral of the story: not all atheists think for themselves. That isn't to say that some atheists that are pro-choice haven't thought about it, but I feel that many pro-choice atheists haven't. When I get into a debate with atheists (real debates, in person), I tend to always get them thinking about their stance, and many of them even, in the end, agree with my pro-life stance. The point is that the pro-life vs. pro-choice issue should be thought about, a person should not blindly pick a side based upon irrelevant similarities in a particular side's supporters (e.g atheism, liberal, male, female, black, white). Atheism and pro-choice are irrelevant to one another.
