Debate: Is Atheism A Positive Force In America?

part 1

part 2

The Catholic got destroyed in this debate, obviously. The introduction was very biased towards religion—perhaps they are being unknowingly biased or preaching to their choir (aka: their majority Christian audience). As Silverman repeatedly brought up: "read the bible". The atheist message now should be for believers to read the bible from cover to cover. It is the best way for them to step back and question their beliefs. They don't even need to go to far into the bible (like when Moses' men take all the young virgin girls of a city as sex slaves while brutally murdering the rest).

The reason the majority of Americans are Christian is because the majority of Christians in America haven't read the Bible.

Atheist David Silverman vs. Megyn Kelly Over Christmas Billboard ("you know it's a myth")

This is a great thing for children to be exposed to, perhaps it may wake them up from their faith-induced coma. Should the holidays be all about some baby that will later be tortured on two pieces of wood? How does that create inspiration? Family holidays should be about appreciating family, not superstitious nonsense that is both historically and scientifically inaccurate. Christians hijacked the winter solstice, atheists and all other non-Christians should take it back! Besides, we all know Jesus wasn't even biblically born in December (look it up).

Can we trust the Bible? (Fail Circular Argument)

This video is stupid from beginning to end. It is videos like this that make being an atheist easy.

If you are informed at all about Christianity and/or the Bible, you should know very well that the points made in this video are a joke (even though they don't intend for it to be).

Atheist Billboard: "You KNOW It's a Myth"

There is nothing wrong with this billboard. The most it will do is get people thinking about their own beliefs. Why are Christians afraid of honest skepticism? So little faith they have!

Atheists (or anyone) have the right to express their opinions. Religion is a huge part of this country, and to not allow people to discuss it wouldn't be in the spirit of free-speech (free-speech is a two way street).

Atheists must be vocal, especially when others are imposing their religion onto everyone. If the religious look to avoid criticism from atheists, then they should keep their religion at home. All ideas should open to criticism.

YouTube: "Are BLACK People RACIST?!" (OutbackZack)

Racists exist within every race. I would say, as a whole, white people are the least racist at the moment. I've seen black people, for example, rip on white people for being white, and not catch any flak for it. People are racists towards white people all the time, the only reason it is not heard and/or made a big deal of is because white people aren't typically offended by it. If someone calls me a "cracker"—aside from holding back a laugh— I don't feel as if I have been insulted. It is the victims of racism that give racism it's shock value. If someone is racist towards you, don't take it to heart, laugh it off.

A racist is only looking to offend others, if the victims of racism act offended, the racist leaves feeling content....which is why, even if you are offended, don't react as if you were.

We also must remember to not hate racists, to hate a group of people for hating other groups of people is hypocritical.

American Atheists' David Silverman on Fox & Friends (war on Winter Solstice)

David Silverman owned this discussion. Christians stole winter solstice. The vast majority of Christians aren't aware of the history of the original holiday. Hell (npi), most biblical scholars agree that Jesus wasn't even born in December. Atheists have every right to express their views on any matter, including religion. Christians are just so used to having everything their way—times are a changing.

Bill O'Reilly Interviews Guy On The Evidence Of an Afterlife

It's sad how Bill O'Reilly is the most skeptical between the two. There can't be evidence of any afterlife, all people that experience them are alive. There is no such thing are a near-death experience, you are rather dead or alive, there is no gray area. For a person to have a look at any sort of afterlife, they would have to be dead (being that it is after life). It's odd how Bill O'Reilly can be skeptical of this guy, yet doesn't use the same level of skepticism on his own beliefs. I assume Bill was indoctrinated as a child, if he wasn't, he would probably be an atheist. It is hypocritical to be skeptical of others ideas if you are not skeptical of your own.

Bill O'Reilly: "The Atheists Are Just Stupid For Making People Angry"

Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter bashing atheists, the perfect shit-stain! Close-minded people like this are unable to imagine things from a different perspective. I find that the lower a person's intelligence, the lower their capacity for empathy. A mouse has very little empathy for this reason—mice don't have the mental facilities to engage in empathetical thinking. I thought Christians enjoyed having their faith tested? Isn't that one of their big bragging points amongst one another? That faith-testing makes that faith stronger or whatever? Either way, this country was founded on secularism and freedom of speech. Essentially the government should be atheistic in their policy making by default.

Video: Are Atheists Blind or Stupid or What?

Some good points made in this video. Reality has a very strong atheistic bias. There is no god to be aware of, only a god to be dreamt of. The Bible was written by several authors, if they were to only write down historical events, they would have no religion. Why do you think the Harry Potter series is such a big seller? Because it has magic! People are fascinated with magic, they were in the past, and they are now. People want to believe in magic, it provides a cheap sense of wonder.

Dane Cook - Sneezing Atheist

It's odd how Christians can say any religious thing they want in public, but when an atheist does, they get attacked for it. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Atheist Church: Abortion and Murder (YouTube's klfly)

I'm one of those rare pro-life atheists. Well, pro-life is most cases. I believe abortion is morally justifiable in cases of mental retardation (as well as certain extreme cases physical retardation) and rape. However, when conception is an "accident", a person should not be able to get an abortion. The woman who has an "accident" should have to deal with the consequences of her actions. Of course she should have the choice to put the baby up for adoption immediately after birth, but she should not have the choice for whether the baby lives or dies. I believe that adoption centers should also get more funding, and more advertising for public awareness should be done.

This is a difficult subject, but it is a subject atheists should actually think about, and their own conclusions should be made. I feel many atheists go along with the stance of liberal political figures and famous atheists, and don't actually think about the issue themselves. Many atheists see liberals as supporting an issue, and die-hard Christians opposing it, and automatically side with the liberals. Christians have the right view on abortion, but for what I view as the wrong philosophical reasons.

The moral of the story: not all atheists think for themselves. That isn't to say that some atheists that are pro-choice haven't thought about it, but I feel that many pro-choice atheists haven't. When I get into a debate with atheists (real debates, in person), I tend to always get them thinking about their stance, and many of them even, in the end, agree with my pro-life stance. The point is that the pro-life vs. pro-choice issue should be thought about, a person should not blindly pick a side based upon irrelevant similarities in a particular side's supporters (e.g atheism, liberal, male, female, black, white). Atheism and pro-choice are irrelevant to one another.

Joe Rogan on retiring the word "faggot"

Joe Rogan has had one strange childhood....

The problem is oversensitivity, it is what makes words like "faggot" powerful. However, now it is too late, the word should no longer be used by anyone, regardless of context.

I'll occasionally say things like: "oh my God", or "Jesus Christ". It doesn't mean that believe in either, being that I'm an atheist; it is not the words themselves that matter, but the underlying meaning. Some words are emphasis words, thrown into a sentence like a verbal explanation point. A lot of people use the n-word in the same way (even though it is tasteless to do so, given the words history). I feel that words that have double meanings shouldn't be use as insults, they may offend the wrong person. The moral of the story is to be creative when insulting people, don't resort to hateful words like "faggot" or the "n-word".

Jesus 100% Supported Old Testament Laws/Teachings (contrary to what most Christians claim)

Do not think that I have come to do away with the Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets. I have not come to do away with them, but to make their teachings come true. Remember that as long as heaven and earth last, not the least point nor the smallest detail of the Law will be done away - not until the end of all things. So then, whoever disobeys even the least important of the commandments and teaches other to do the same, will be least in the Kingdom of heaven. -Matthew 4:17-20 GNB

Needless to say, many Christians are wretched sinners by Old Testament standards. Click on the below Bible for some Old Testament quotes (and a few New). Being that Jesus supports the Old Testament laws and teachings, he in-turn supports all the genocide, rape, and pillaging described within it. Much of what Jesus teaches contradicts the Old Testament, for him to support it is very hypocritical (and funny to atheists).

The Man Who Elbowed Barack Obama In Face During Basketball Game (video)

I think he did it on purpose...

Man Claims Man Did Not Evolve, But Were Created By Aliens!

This guy is a joke. First off, it is not know what the first advanced society was, the Sumerians are one of several early societies that historical evidence reveals. The Sumerians may or may not have been the first advanced society on earth (I don't believe they were). This guy didn't bring up any evidence at all to support his claims.

One thing he did claim was that there is not a smooth transition of fossils (which would be impossible to have anyways). Because of this, it must have been aliens that did it! This guy is no different than a creationist -- he sees a mystery and turns to fairy-tales (instead of God being the creator, it was aliens). Evolution offers a very good explanation for the complexity of life. Life has been on this planet for approximately 3,500,000,000,000 years, plenty of time for life to evolve.

How many layers of sedimentary rock would be needed to cover every single mutation? Such a fossil record would be ridiculous, to expect such a thing is moronic. Why is it that the critics of evolution all seem to not understand the theory beyond a 10th grade level (and that is being generous)? When he goes into genetics, he forgets to mention how much of our DNA is shared with other species. Humans and Chimps share 98% of their DNA. If a monkey is looked at, there are many similar characteristics, both physically and psychologically.

Humans are not as evolved as we like to believe we are; humans are the metaphorical perfect-storm in evolution. Bonobos aren't too far away from humans. They are able understand human language (albeit, not as well as a typical adult human). If they had vocal cords capable of enunciating the English language, they would probably be capable of it. Bonobos could evolve to human-like intellectual levels within a few million years if they had the right selective pressures (a few million years is not that much time in the context of evolutionary time). Check out the video below...

Fox News: Angels Saved Man From Raging Fire?

Yeah, must be angels, no other possible explanation.

Unless...

What if it was the Buddha that carried him out? Or Chuck Norris? Why must it have been angels?

I thought lying was a sin? This guy can't know what happened if he was unconscious.

When people claim to know something which takes faith, they misunderstand what faith is; faith is not based upon what a person knows, it is based upon what a person believes. The truth is, this guy has no idea what happened, and he is using his religion to try to make sense of the unsenseable. There is a rational explanation for everything, and there is an explanation for this as well. I would say he probably walked out on his own two feet, but the event was so traumatic, he doesn't remember it.

Video: Bonobo Apes Are Able To Communicate Using English (plus Anderson Cooper in a bunny suit)

We underestimate the intelligence of some animals. It appears Bonobos can communicate at the level of a 3-4 year old human—that is impressive. With some genetic engineering, perhaps we may have a species that can be used as laborers (being that they are much stronger than humans). While I'm half kidding, if they were able to be made into laborers, they wouldn't go extinct :)

Thanking God For Food Is Absurd (Thanksgiving Blog)

Brothers in misfortuneToday many of you will be visiting family for the Thanksgiving holiday. Many families say grace before eating (including mine). And after grace is said, we typically go around the table saying one thing we are thankful for. My religious relatives thank God, and I (an atheist), am thankful for the food itself and my grandmother for preparing it. What I don't understand is how people can rationalize thanking the supposed creator of the universe for allowing food to exist. Even though God is very improbable, let's say for the sake of argument, that there is a god. Why should this god be thanked for allowing his creation to have food? Wouldn't the alternative be torture?
Obesidad en MexicoStarved child

If God is responsible for determining who has food and who doesn't, then isn't that a little twisted to be thanking him? Even in the United States people are starving everyday; is it God that should be blamed for not giving them food? Thanking God for food is like thanking him for not giving you AIDS—which implies God is responsible for giving people AIDS! There is only so much food produced in the world each year, and it is distributed based upon wealth; i.e. thanking God for giving you food is to thank him for not giving it to someone else.
Overweight biker

To be clear, there probably is no God, there is as much evidence for God as there is for leprechauns. I am not admitting to any existence of a god, but rather pointing out the strange mentality of believers. Anyways...

Thanking the creator of the Universe for providing something that is needed for survival is ridiculous. Thanking God for food is just as ridiculous as thanking God for oxygen (which some Christians probably do). We don't choose to be born, there is no free-will involved in that process. We wake up, and are stuck here until we die.

Stutthof Concentration Camp
If there is a God, then earth is like a concentration camp. Why would we thank the Nazi (yes, I just called God a Nazi) for giving us our rations while he continues to starve/torture others? To thank God for food is not exactly to be thanking him for food, but rather to thank him for allowing you to survive—which to me, seems like a disgusting mindset. Perhaps being an atheist has made me biased, but I do not understand how people can rationalize thanking God for anything, especially food. It is people that are responsible for producing food, and those people do it for the money, so they should not be thanked. In practice no one other than the person who purchased/prepared the food should be thanked, but even they do so for selfish reasons (they're eating it/get browny-points with the family). Thanking should be done towards those that are consciously responsible for helping.

Thanksgiving should be a day where people appreciate what they have, instead of thanking imaginary friends for food. Things are what they are, and the good things should be appreciated on this day. There is a difference between having appreciation and being thankful (even though most people probably don't know what it is). Appreciate today, live in the moment.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Pope Changes Stance On Using Condoms!

Apparently Pope Benedict XVI now sees condom use as acceptable in certain circumstances (mainly to reduce the risk of HIV infection). I think it is great how the catholic church is telling people what to do with their privates again.

...."stop playing with it"
..."don't put it in that hole"
..."don't put a rubber thing on it"
...."put a rubber thing on it sometimes"

I think the Catholics should worry more about their priests molesting children, and less about whether people should be able to use contraceptive.

Ex-Priest Held in Plot to Kill Sex Abuse Victim (MUST WATCH VIDEO!!)

Any man that would rather be a priest than have a wife and family is a creeper in my book. As an atheist I am tentative with using the term 'evil', but if there is evil in this world, this is what it looks like. Shame there is no hell for him to go to.

Jewish Girl Converts to Islam in America

Weird how Islam is rising in America, I wonder why that is...Obama? Global Warming?

I also wonder as to why so many Jewish people are converting to Islam; does Islamic culture seem more "Old Testament" to them? Regardless, I expect Islam to rise and then plateau in the United States relatively soon, followed by a decline. People like to feel as if they are original, which is why I believe this Jewish girl converted to Islam—to be different. Being different isn't always a bad thing; sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. If this girl can use her belief in Islam for good, more power to her—not all Muslims can or do.

An Atheist Converts To Islam

part 1

part 2

The shower he is referring to is the blissful ignorance extinguishing the flame of skepticism, as well as the destruction of his individuality; now all he is good for is his wool.

Christine O'Donnell on evolution

Anyone that uses the straw-man argument 'why don't monkeys evolve into people today?' need to ejubacate themselves about evolutionary theory. It's almost as if religious belief like that, blinds a person to reality (or any reality that contradicts it). Why do so many atheists accept evolution as the explanation for the complexity of life? Is it because atheists don't have an imaginary friend telling them they can't?

Evolution doesn't lead people towards atheism, religion leads people away from reality.

Christine O'Donnell on Hitler, God, Jews & Lies (TYT)

I don't believe Christine O'Donnell would be the type of person to protect Jewish people from Nazis. I think she would have been doing the opposite, given her level of faith in the "greater good"; i.e. God's will.

Homosexuality can be cured with tennis rackets? (and Ex-Gays for Congress)

If homosexuality could actually be cured (with hormone/behavioral therapy). Would any gay people even be interested in doing it? Would homosexuality be labeled as a medical/psychological problem? What a slippery slope. Homosexuality is as much of a choice as is heterosexuality.

"No Homosexual Shall Enter the Kingdom of Heaven"

If 'God can do anything' then why does he do nothing about priests touching little boys?

Nobody chooses who they are attracted to. It is Christianity that is responsible for the majority of hatred towards gay people in the United States. Atheists seem to be more accepting of people in general; there are probably some atheists that hate gays, but they are about as rare as an intelligent creationist.

God is as powerful as the human imagination.

Angry Black Women -- "Government Under Satanic Control from Gays"

A Christian preaching about how nature works is like a biologist preaching about how a virgin-birth works. I do wonder how any homosexual person can be a Christian; the bible is against homosexuality—well between two men at least (and I can understand how they would view homosexuality in general as being a sins). The debate on whether homosexuality is learned or hardwired is interesting. Thus far it appears to be more nature and not so much nurture, but nurture probably plays some role. Anyways, people are what they are, and they shouldn't be hated for something that doesn't hurt anyone. Atheists seem to view the world more objectively, they don't have beliefs that get in the way of basic empathy.

Dr. Terry Jones -- "We Don't Want the Homos, Queers and Faggots to Go to Hell"

Doesn't Christianity sound like a loving religion? Hate people, just what Jesus would do....right? This is the kind of mentality responsible for war and genocide. I assume he believes atheists will go to hell as well; if I go to hell, I'm taking Terry Jones down there with me.

Islam and homosexuality are partners? Since when? And why is God turning people into Muslims? Does that mean God = Allah? He says that 'Islam is of the Devil', does that also mean God and the Devil are the same guy? Perhaps a bipolar god? So many questions, so little answers...

'I Kissed a Girl' is of Satan!

Technically girl on girl sex is not a sin (the bible only refers to male homosexuality as a sin, as far as I know). I guess it's better to have our girls get stuffed like a thanksgiving turkey than to be with a member of the same sex....the way Jesus would have wanted it. Why are so many Christians so worried about what others do with their junk? If God's creation was so perfect, then how can Christians claim being gay is wrong? How can they know? Maybe God wants some people to be gay (this is a joke..of course there is no God, and sexual-morality of relative)?

"Homosexuality is Domestic Terrorism"

Oh my!

Christian Movie: How the Atheist Stole Christmas

And the demonizing of atheists continue....

Celebrating religion should be done in private. Winter Solstice predates the supposed birth of Jesus. Christians hijacked the holiday because they felt left out. Most biblical scholars don't even think Jesus was born in December. Christians like to believe the universe revolves around them.

Reading the Bible (Or the Koran, Or the Torah) Will Make You an Atheist

The Bible literally did make me an atheist. Most believers haven't actually read the Bible, which is hilarious. There is a lot of 'faith testing' in the Bible. Such as Moses having his army use all the girl-virgins of a captured city as sex-slaves, while murdering all the rest. The Bible is not the peaceful and moral book that most Christians were led to believe—there is a lot of nasty stuff in there.

Religion & War - Dr. Ravi Zacharias claims atheism has caused more death than religion.

How is killing in violation of Christianity? The Christian holy-book is filled with murder...well, Christians don't like to refer to it as "murder" ('justifying killings' sound much better). This guy doesn't understand that atheism is not a belief system, a morality, or a standard of ethics. Atheism is the non-belief in a god/gods and nothing more.

Besides, for those that actually read the bible, without personal bias, will see real quick how nasty its message is. The bible on one hand brings out the worst in human nature, and on the other, points out the obvious (e.g. murder and stealing are wrong). Atheism has no scripture, or any sort of thing like that, that is what this guy doesn't seem to understand. Atheism didn't motivate Stalin to do what he did. What this guy is saying is as ridiculous as me me saying that Osama Bin Ladin did what he did because of his lack of belief in astrology. It takes a certain belief system to motivate someone to do evil; a lack of a belief has never caused evil, but it certainly can get in its way.

Why People Believe In God (an atheist's rant on God and faith)

The core of belief systems like Christianity and Islam are built upon its followers having faith (i.e. belief in scientific/historical claims without any supporting evidence). The primary required idea to be believed in is the existence of a god (for the world's most popular religions).

The idea of a god existing, on its surface, seems ridiculous from the atheist point-of-view. Atheists in general have trouble understanding why believers believe what they do. Atheists, when thinking about the existence of anything, look at it with logical-based analysis (is there evidence? is it credible? etc.), while often assuming others do as well. What must be understood is that believers (Christians, Jews, Muslims etc.) don't believe in God because it is logical to them, they believe for emotional reasons (primarily peace-of-mind). It is not the details of the belief which is important (e.g., talking snakes and virgin births), but rather, the way such beliefs make them feel. The human mind is wired to accept an idea more easily if the information is enjoyable to contemplate, than if the idea is boring or in conflict with their particular world-view. The idea of a loving-god can generate a pleasant well-being. Having what is believed as the most powerful conscious being in the universe on your side is an amazing placebo when life feels overwhelming and depressing. The idea of God makes people view the world as if they have total control over it (or at least their imaginary friend does), giving them the cognitive ability to overcome any emotional hardship. Once the idea of a god enters someones mind, and they utilize it for consoling purposes, it becomes very hard to remove—as hard as any drug dependency.

God is more than consolation however. God is a being which has magical powers; i.e. he can turn water into wine and impregnate virgins (proof scripture was written by man). There is something very euphoric about being in the state of wonder. Our world only gets boring when we feel we understand it. This is why magicians like David Blaine get such a following. It isn't exactly what magicians do that is important, but the way they make people feel. Having a sense of wonder is another great coping mechanism (any distraction from pain or boredom is). Not everyone is intelligent enough to be able to comprehend scientific ideas, so they are unable to get any sense of wonder from thinking about them (because they can't). Science is great for creating a sense of wonder, every time something new is learned, for that moment, the world is not boring, it is interesting. The great thing about science and wonder is that the more questions science answers, the more questions are thought of to be asked. But, let's say you are not the sharpest tool in the shed, if you are exposed to science, but are unable to understand it, you are unable to absorb it, and unable to escape the boredom and/or pain. God may be good for certain people that are unable to get a feeling of wonder from science. God creates a sense of wonder in the same way that a sugar pill can relieve headaches; if you know it is a placebo, it probably won't work, and you may not understand how it works for others.

I wrote this post relatively quickly (like the majority of my posts), so it may sound like a rant.

Atheist Richard Dawkins interviews a Crazy Muslim (who used to be a Jew)

Poor Richard thought he could have a rational conversation with someone as irrational as this guy. People like this cannot be reasoned with, there is very little purpose in even talking with people with this sort of mentality (the mentality of world domination and the enslavement of women).

A muslim argues with Atheist Richard Dawkins over Islam in a video game (sound board prank)

Why to Muslims seem to always pronounce 'Quran' with such an exaggerated accent? This is obviously a sound board, and not really Dawkins. Still funny though.

Faith Can Cause Mental Illness {{{MAN CUTS OWN HAND OFF FOR JESUS!)}}}

Anyone that actually believes they communicate with a god is nuts.

Youth Drifting Away From Religion And Going Towards Atheism?

Youth are drifting away from religion because indoctrination isn't quite so dominate than it was 50 years ago. The rise of atheism will be shown in large when today's youth reach middle-age. Atheism is becoming more and more of an acceptable position. The important thing to ensure that atheism continues to become acceptable to for atheists to freely express their views to avoid Christians from demonizing them. Atheists (or some may call them 'nonbelievers' will be the majority in 30 years).

Atheist Richard Dawkins: Are Religious People Healthier?

I see many religious people that are stressed to the brink. I don't believe religion is much of a factor in mental health; concepts like hellfire, and mind-police can't be all that consoling. Being indoctrinated can be terrifying and perhaps in some cases may manifest anxiety issues later down the road for some children. Religion is more of a stressor than a relaxer in my opinion—but perhaps as an atheist I am biased.

Richard Dawkins On The 'Cult of Atheism'

A cult of 'non-belief in a god' -- what a great foundation for herding sheep. It's interesting to see how some folks still see atheism as a belief system, or a belief that can polarize people. Atheists are so individualistic that they can't even form a lobby with any sort of political power worth mentioning. Atheists tend to be intellectual-loners—the opposite of what makes a good sheep—freethinkers make bad cult members.

Ben Franklin's Kite-Flying Experiment Never Happened -- history class fail?

Odd, I always assumed this was true. Strange how someone can be remembered for something that they never even did -- hyperbole and tall-tales have no place in the history books. I guess you can't believe everything that is taught in public school. He still had sex with many French prostitutes right? Don't take away all of our hysterical history!

What Does the Future Hold for Humanity? (Fora TV)

It is impossible to predict any sort of longterm trend with human life because it changes so rapidly. I believe it is equally likely that we will nuke ourselves into oblivion as it is that we overpopulate.

Humanity is not based upon what it owns, but instead what it knows. Unlike a lot of "stuff" that changes hands and/or gets destroyed in a proverbial blink of an eye, knowledge can last for as long as our society (perhaps even longer). Unfortunately there are forces that are out to destroy knowledge, which is why the future can not belong to religion. An atheistic world will preserve human knowledge—a religious world will destroy it, given enough time.

Poop to Plastic? Turning Biological Waste into Biodegradable Plastics

Most people probably wont want to drink water from bottles made of poo. We already have a lot of shit made out of plastic, and now they want to make our plastic out of shit. We love our plastic crap, so I suppose when we run out of petroleum beggars can't be choosers.

This is a scary thing for any American that cares for the fate of this nation. Just imagine someone like Sarah Palin having the nuclear codes? She might try to bring on the Apocalypse. The only good thing that would come from a Palin presidency is the late-night comedy shows would have better material (remember the Bush years?). If I had any faith in the intelligence of the American voter, a Palin presidential run would not bother me at all, because there would be no way in hell she would get elected. Sadly the majority of Americans are as dumb if not dumber than Palin, so they may feel they have more in common with her. Palin has a much better shot at winning in 2012 (if she runs, which she probably will) than most people give her credit for. I look forward to the political debates, should be a comedic gold-mine!

America's Top Model -- a pointless and destructive show that should be banned!!!!!!

America's Top Model happen to be on the television when I was visiting family a few days ago. And all of us watching it agreed that it is a stupid and destructive show. This post is just a rant about why I feel this show's message, and other, similar messages are horrible for a society.

The first scene that I noticed was with the anorexic black girl—and I'm not using the term 'anorexic' as an exaggeration, this person looked like she should be at a treatment center. In other words, she was literally skin and bones, it was absolutely disgusting. But what really concerns me is the sort of message this sends to people, especially younger women. A show like this is apparently endorsing anorexia, and subliminally telling woman who aspire to be 'beautiful' that they need to be as well. All of the woman on this show appear to be sporting unhealthy body-types, and I would say they all are involved in very unhealthy eating habits (starving and/or bulimia).

The general point of the goofy-ass reality show is to make girls dream/aspire to become models, right (in the way it is glorified)? Regardless of whatever strategy the models on the show used to attain such body-types, they are sending the message that they are the ideal of outer-beauty. The majority of woman want to reach the ideal of beauty. The only way any ordinary, healthy woman can achieve such an ideal is to engage in dangerous, unhealthy behaviors. Luckily most women don't go to such lengths, but they can still be harmed emotionally by such ideas (which I'll get into later in the post).

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the makers of this show don't intend it to be an anorexic freak show (only reason it caught my attention). But, a show that promotes models with such body types also promotes the behavior that is responsible for them. Which is why it and all endorsements of anorexia should be banned from the public eye (magazines, television, internet, etc.)

Anorexia/bulimia is much unhealthier than smoking is, yet cigarette companies are banned from advertising in the way the modeling industry is able to. Psychologically and physically, garbage shows like America's next top model can be much more damaging than cigarettes could ever be (which should be obvious). Many girls today, and in the past, have had unrealistic standards for what is considered 'beautiful'. It's obvious that they get such ideas, in large, from watching television and looking at magazines (and/or are bullied by those that do). In my opinion both the problem of bulimia and/or anorexia is caused by the modeling industry labeling anorexic body-types as the ideal. Here are a few videos of the 'damage' I am referring to...

Anorexia - not so glamorous

Family Struggles to Understand Death of Bulimic Teen

what's wrong with society

We need some regulation here (both for the sake of the consumer and models themselves). I believe all models should be required to register with a government-health organisation and have regular check-ups to ensure healthy, normal body weight. Also, photo editors should no longer be able to utilize Photoshop and/or any program to alter the image to make the models appear thinner. All images that are wished to be used should first have to pass a certain standard set by an overseeing agency to prevent harmful messaging.

We need to realize that, like we can put unhealthy things into our bodies, we can put unhealthy thoughts into our minds. Currently in our society, corporations within the context of this subject are brain-washing women into having a poor self-image, which in-turn causes women to read their magazines and use their beauty products. If all women had a healthy self-esteem when it comes to body image, the modelling and beauty industry in general would be gutted. These industries seem to have a philosophy that if they present unrealistic body-types, along with woman with abnormally attractive faces etc. (in regards to symmetry and complexion), that women will lower how they view themselves. This will create motivation to improve—generating more interest in the modeling industry and beauty products. It should make people sick knowing the strategic forces behind how these industries make their money. But they can't be blamed completely, money tends to make people heartless tools. It is our society in general which should be blamed, we should be preventing self-destructive ideas from entering the heads of the impressionable (primarily young women in this case), but we currently don't. We allow these slimy businesses to psychologically damage women so that they can make a buck.

The damage caused runs much deeper than the crushing of confidence and self-esteem of woman. It makes woman think about physical appearance excessively—distracting them from important things like education and life in general. While some will disagree, many, if not the majority of woman are far to obsessed with their  looks, as well as the looks of others. I feel that this obsession borders on the line of an OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Not only does this mentality cause woman to view themselves more negatively, but perhaps such women may bully others based upon their looks (many bullies bully due to self-esteem/stress related issues typically). Those that are only concerned with physical appearance, judge themselves and others based upon that standard. We wonder as to why our society is less empathetic and increasingly shallow, here is a big piece to that puzzle. And while it is just a pet-theory, I believe that a mind that is constantly engaged in shallow thinking will be increasingly unable to think deeply about themselves or the world around them.

The FCC should ban America's Top Model, and a campaign to stop the insanity should be waged. Schools should have children submit to regular health exams to ensure they have a healthy body weight. I also believe that make-up should be banned from all schools (lowering peer pressure to obsess over looks). Also school uniforms should be utilized as well (which I  have already blogged about before, click here if you wish to read it). A focus on studies and prevention of this behavioral/psychological problem is needed.

While I can't speak for all men, women that are too skinny are not attractive in my opinion. Women that are of average body-weight (or have a 'few extra pounds' are, in reality, viewed as being the most attractive by what I believe is the majority of men.

Justin Bieber Killed on South Park (video clip included -- must watch!)

Atheist Richard Dawkins replies to Ben Stein at the University of Oklahoma

Why are creationists such a good topic for comedy? I think that atheists like to debate creationists—not because they want to change their minds—but because they find it entertaining (at least that's why I do it).

Atheist Richard Dawkins: One Fact to Refute Creationism

While this sounds nice, I'm sure a creationist can weasel their way out of this. People-of-faith and people-of-reason cannot convince one another of anything because intellectually they are apples and oranges.

Funny Atheist Quotes (video)

Atheists are just plain funnier than Christians -- but I'm probably biased.

Stephen Colbert vs Stephen Hawking's Atheism?

I think Stephen Colbert is a cultural-Christian that believes and belief -- but when it comes down to it, he is an atheist/agnostic (as in he doesn't actually believe that a god exists, but would  if evidence was found).

Citing Atheists Offensive in Obama Inaugural Address?

Nonbelievers (atheists) should be recognized as existing, and it shouldn't be offensive to believers. That's like saying that mentioning black people is offensive to racists -- how ridiculous. It will be along time before atheists are properly respected in the political realm, but the day will come eventually. The only reason atheists aren't respected is because we don't believe in magic.

Fox News Dumbest Anti-Atheist Question of the Month?

That blonde bitch is retarded -- Faux News sure knows how to pick em'. Atheists are able to appreciate people just as much or more than Christians (I would go with 'more'). Christians are taught to believe all people are mere pawns of God, and those that don't obey to go hell. Need I say more?

Atheist Church "Creation" film review 3-28-10

I don't think many Christians have seen this movie -- their delusions have a great self-preservation mechanism. Anyways, to think of how difficult it must have been for Darwin to come to the conclusions that he did while being religious. It's a shame "hellfire" feared people into 'not think that way' about themselves and the life around them, stunting biology for 100s if not 1,000s of years -- hell (no pun intended), it still gets in its way today. There is a reason atheists tend to always agree that evolution explains the complexity of life -- it is because they are unbiased towards ideas. In other words, they don't have an imaginary friend telling them what they can believe and what they can't.

Tom Leykis - Caller Proves God's Existence (Ask The Atheist)

Tom destroyed this guy, just horrible. The bible was no where near the first book ever written, not even close. I wish more atheists would debate Christians like this, would be funny to watch.

Tom Leykis - Abortion, God & Founding Christian Principles of the USA (Ask The Atheist)

I love this guy, he's so brutally honest. Slavery is a Christian principle, Jesus even endorsed it. Christians love to have their cake and eat it to -- they Romanticise everything. An atheist debating a Christian on religion is always a good subject for comedy.

Did anyone notice the Christian call Tom Leykis a 'master debater'? teehee.

Tom Leykis - Men Like Low IQ's, Women Like High IQ's (Scientific Evidence)

This doesn't surprise me. Intelligent girls are not as annoying (in my opinion)as this guy makes them out to be. In-fact for me, I am more attracted to women that are above average in intelligence. I do understand, however, that a guy does not want to be with a woman that is smarter than they are—for the same reason that a guy wants to make more money—it is a dominance thing. Men naturally want to be the head of the household, it is hardwired into us. It is all determined based upon how intimidated a particular man is by a woman's intelligence. This is also similar as to why men are not attracted to female body-builders (well most).

Guy Shoots A 50cal And It Ricochets And Hits Him!

This is only funny because the guy lived. Talk about horrible luck...

Low IQ Women Want To Date Rich Guys (Study)

They over-complicate this. Dumber women are shallower than women that are more intelligent. Superficiality and low-IQs go hand-in-hand. Also, women of less intellectual ability are less independent for obvious reasons. Why was a study even needed to be done on this? Anyone could have guessed that this is how it would have turned out. Most stereotypes are based in reality—perhaps exaggerated in some cases—but the root tends to exist. The stereotype here is the dumb, gold digging blonde -- which we have all seen.

High School Student Destroys State Senator

Vatican Prepares World For "ALIEN CONTACT"

Great, now the Catholics are claiming aliens *rolls eyes*. Aliens are a huge contradiction to the Catholic faith -- otherwise they would have to disown the old-testament completely (which they pretty much have already done by accepting evolution). If aliens do ever make contact, I believe that many formerly religious people will dump their religions and become atheist, or will go to religions that support that knowledge (like perhaps Scientology *cringe*). Much of the Abrahamic religions are based upon concepts like Creationism and the Garden Of Eden -- aliens showing up would probably be too much for even the strongest of faith. While unlikely, it is not impossible that an alien species would have a religion of their own that they would try to impose on humanity -- wouldn't that be ironic.

Could Legalizing Marijuana Lower Mexican Drug Violence?

People are going to smoke marijuana whether it is legal or not, now it is a matter of who is getting the money. I would much rather see the money going to the government than to the cartel.

Christine O'Donnell: "Evolution is a myth"

I've never seen a person deny evolution that actually understood it. "Why don't monkeys evolve into people today" -- if anyone says this then it is clear that they don't understand the scientific theory they oppose. Atheists tend to be more knowledgeable about science (evolution specifically) because we know we don't have all the answers. Theists on the other hand lose their natural curiosity of the world -- for no matter how complicated the details are -- 'God did it' is the ultimate answer for them. This is why I think atheists should from time to time feel empathy towards theists, they are prisoners of their own delusion. I remember back when I was a Christian (up until my later teens) that I would feel very guilty about thinking about whether evolution was true, like I was betraying god for believing something which contradicts the bible. I bet the majority of Christians are afraid of offending their god, so they do everything they can to ignore the fact of evolution. Creationists are not on the internet looking up information on evolution -- but you will find that many atheist/evolution apologists look up a lot of info. on religion as well as creationists arguments (they do this to argue them).

TRANSFORM YOUR IPHONE INTO A STUN GUN!!!

I'm unsure if this is real or not, can anyone verify its legitimacy? Either way this is funny as hell.

Elephant Man (WARNING -- very disturbing video)

Poor guy. I hate to use his suffering as an example...but...

This is proof that we are not intelligently designed by some sky-daddy. Human biology is far from perfect, and this is a prime example of it.

Who lives in the eleventh dimension? - Parallel Universes - BBC science

Scientists discuss what sort of life could be found in the eleventh dimension. With talk of world of lightning bolts, electricity, unstable atoms and more, this video from BBC show 'Parallel Universe' is full of mind-bending theories to set your imagination racing.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: "smoking one joint, no big deal" (also talks about prop 19. failing)

Kanye West Forgives George W. Bush in interview (over Katrina drama)

How is his faith relevant in forgiveness? The Christian god is the least forgiving character to have ever been dreamt up by the human mind (if you bring up Jesus, I'll raise you an eternity in hell). I can think of several children's books that teach forgiveness much better than the Bible. Perhaps as an atheist I am biased towards being skeptical of the Christian faith—but I do not see how being a Christian teaches forgiveness. The bible is as effective at teaching forgiveness as it is for treating STDs (it teaches to kill a bird and do some goofy ritual).

An atheist (a person without religious faith) is in a much better spot to forgive someone; this is because they are not bound by the teachings of the Bible. The Bible attempts to suppress empathy by demonizing those that fall outside of what the writers perceives as perfection in beliefs and actions. The bible teaches that hatred is pointless because all enemies will be destroyed and/or will be tortured in Hell forever, some empathy.

Before the Big Bang: looking back in time - Parallel Universes - BBC

Things are not smooth out in our universe, with clumps of matter we call stars and galaxies drifting through space. Scientists talk through their theories on how the parallel universe theory might help to plot the history of time to even before the Big Bang. Brilliant video from BBC science show, 'Parallel Universes'.
---------------------------------

So it appears that instead of everything coming from nothing, it came from something else. When ID/Creationists debate atheists they always bring up the big-bang as one of their talking points, and many atheists don't know how to respond. An important thing to not do is contribute to the confusion of a creationists. If something exist it has a source, our knowledge of time will never be able to go back to the beginning—perhaps there never was a beginning.

Animated reconstruction of evolution - BBC science

How can anyone choose a talking snake and tree of wisdom over evolutionary theory? Understanding evolution is a mind-expanding experience, understanding why we are here and where we come are two of the most important things for a person to ponder. A person can believe nonsense that 'God did it' or they can actually make an effort to understand the forces responsible for why we are here.

Atheists accept evolution not because evolution caused their atheism, but because atheism freed them from the thought prison "God" keeps them in. Evolution can further reinforce an atheistic stance, but there must be some skepticism already present for those that were raised to believe in a deity. We all view the world through the lens of subjectivity, atheism makes that lens a little bit clearer.

Evolution Is Real (video on molecular biology)

I often see creationists straw-man evolutionary theory and look ridiculous when debating atheists on the complexity of life. And of course on the flip-side, atheists should also educate themselves about evolution. That isn't to say that all atheists accept evolution (although I haven't ran into an atheist that doesn't), it's important to understand this sort of stuff.

Adam Carolla on the nonsense illegal marijuana

Adam Carolla on Atheism

It's not all that unreasonable for a person to claim to know there is no god. If we can't disprove god, then we can't disprove anything. If there is some sort of god (which there probably is not), it is 100% not the same god told about in the bible. I can say this because the bible has already been proven to be a work of fiction (disease caused by sin, virgin births, water turning into wine, etc.). Based upon our progressive understanding of this world, an atheist is not wrong by saying there is no atheist. Those that say otherwise are just using wordplay to create a circular argument.

"atheists are weak and stupid?"

"They don't believe theres a god but they don't know which one yet".

"You don't know nothing"

"You're just a sheep"

Misunderstanding, unintentional double negative, and hypocrisy....OH MY!

This is a strange video: the narrator sounds creepy, and the guy he is "pwning" seems disturbed and not all that bright. Here we have a classic victim of childhood indoctrination. He seems to have developed a paranoia that has caused a lumping of all "threatening people" into one group. We are the devil in his eyes—or at least he hopes we are. Look closely and you will see how he is projecting all of his fears and personal insecurities—it's sad really.

Discovery: The Strongest Material on Earth!

Mystery Missile Launch Seen off Calif. Coast

(CBS) A mysterious missile launch off the southern California coast was caught by CBS affiliate KCBS's cameras Monday night, and officials are staying tight-lipped over the nature of the projectile.

CBS station KFMB put in calls to the Navy and Air Force Monday night about the striking launch off the coast of Los Angeles, which was easily visible from the coast, but the military has said nothing about the launch.

Atheist Christopher Hitchens destroys Christian William Lane Craig in a debate.

I don't think Billy Craig realizes how foolish he looks. When it comes to the existence of God and/or the role God has on this universe, it is all taken on faith. To believe that you can effectivly debate agaisnt an atheist about the existence of a being that cannot be proven is absurd.

Atheist Richard Dawkins says he won't debate Christian William Lane Craig

Debating people like William Lane Craig is pointless. Such people would only use their typical circular arguments, and neither side would be changed in the end. It is impossible to change a person's mind when it is closed.

'Atheist Richard Dawkins is not a philosopher'

Richard Dawkins dealt with God in a superficial manner because God is a superficial concept. From a scientific view-point, there isn't much to say about God, other than he isn't real thus far. Dawkins addressed God from the perspective of science in the same way he would have addressed things like unicorns and fairies (they all are supported by the same amount of scientific evidence). There are no arguments for God's existence; all that exists are the powerful imaginations which create delusional world-views to support the existence of consoling ideas (aka God and heaven/hell). A scientist is much more qualified to access the existence of a thing than a goofy pseudo-intellectual philosopher, who is a layman when it comes to how the universe actually works.

An atheist asks "why can't God give us miracles today so we'd know He exists?"

"vote republican" ..lol.

For a person to believe in something, they need some sort of evidence. The only reason anyone (including the tool in this video) believe in this God guy is because he is wrote about in a book, not because of some deep philosophical pondering on their part. If there wasn't for the tales of a schizophrenic, we would have no Abraham or his god. Atheists don't believe in stories that make scientific claims without scientific evidence—this is the most reasonable stance a person can make. There is zero evidence of a god, period.

Can atheists trust their own minds?

This guy doesn't understand the driving forces of evolution. Evolution would push a species to perceive the world as accurately as possible in the context of survive (whenever it aids in its survival). Humans belong to the intelligence niche, we survive based upon how accurately we are able to view and understand the physical world around us (knowledge is power). An atheist isn't able to understand exactly what he/she is, but a theist is much further away.

Aren't we all atheists?

Dr. William Lane Craig answers the typical charge by atheists (like Dan Barker, George H. Smith, Michael Martin, Gordon Stein, etc. who define atheism as a "lack of belief in God") who say literally everybody is an atheist.
-------------------

Dr. William Lane Craig is such a slimy pseudo-intellectual. He misses the forest full of trees with that argument (each tree being a god). He doesn't understand the concept of other imaginary beings. He only sees his god-of-philosophy as being the only true god, and only god that could possibly exist.

I wish that guy would have asked him: "okay, what is God? Not what he is responsible for, but what is it?" The "philosopher" would be unable to list off anything other than nonsense like: "all-powerful being" which describes nothing but what the god is capable of (infinite power). When it boils down to it, Dr. William Lane Craig believes in nothing. God is a word filled with hyperbole, a word as empty and powerless as nothing.

The REAL Definition of Atheism !?

To be an atheist just means that a person does not believe in a god. This guy is your typical educated idiot. Does a monkey need to maintain its atheism? No, because it doesn't even know there is a theistic position to oppose. A person doesn't need to be taught about a god to not believe in its existence. No human pops out of their mothers womb praying to a god. All humans start off in the atheist position (by default), it is later on in life that their heads are filled with talking snakes and magical burning bushes.

+1 atheism
-5 theism

Atheist Dan Barker: Rape Could Be Moral (OH MY!)

Lol, I'm probably the only person that thinks this is hilarious. I don't think that guy could physically rape 2 million girls, there isn't enough Viagra in the world. Also, rape is not the worst crime humanity can think of (as that guy claims). Here are a few that I can think of off the top of my head.

-murder
-child molestation
-getting finger nails pulled off with pliers
-listening to Justin Bieber songs for longer than 2 minutes
-having acid thrown in your face (many girls would rather be raped than have a burn-victim face).

Anyways, this whole debate is stupid and pointless. Never will a scenario where that old geezer raping girls will save humanity—it doesn't matter how much he daydreams about it.

Atheism is responsible for murder, rape, and genocides!?!?

I didn't know atheism was so horrible ....wow, i feel like a real asshole. To think that my non-belief in a god has caused so much death and destruction. I bet if Pol Pot (think that's how his name is spelled) just believed that Jesus Christ was his lord and savior, he wouldn't have killed all those people. We all know that no Christians have ever used religion to justify killing people right? right?

 /end sarcasm

Beliefs don't kill people, people kill people. People use beliefs to justify killing, and people are very creative at justifying violence. I don't want to lump all atheists (or anyone for that matter) into one group. But I find that atheists, if anything, tends to ask 'why' more-so than Believers. Deep thinking helps keep shallow thinking in check (the kind of shallow thinking that is responsible for genocide). To commit a genocide you must polarize a group of people so that they do everything you desire—which includes mindlessly murdering people—for the greater-good. How often has the 'greater good' been religion?

Atheism does not cause people to become polarized, if anything it does the opposite. Skepticism has never killed anyone, religious polarization has.

Breaking News: Scientists re-create Big Bang in lab

According to BBC news (on Yahoo's news site), scientists have made a big bang 'similar' to the one which started the universe (obviously much smaller). The place in which the expironment took place was done in the famous Large Hadron Collider. The story on the site didn't go into much detail, but this is a great story to pick on Christians with. If you want to see the actual story, click here.

*clears throat*

So, apparently a mini-god cost only 10 billion dollars, but you can actually see this one! Do Christians now believe god is a Super Large Hadron Collider? Obviously if people can make a miniature big-bag in a lab, then it is obvious that there is nothing supernatural about a big bang—it is as natural as a bear taking a shit in the woods. Science makes it easy to be an atheist.
