Christians don't like to think like that. They twist logic to make God out to be the good guy no matter what they believe he is responsible for.
The atheist view is: shit happens
The Christian view: God had his reasons, and we love him for it.
Being an atheist is much easier because we don't need to mess around with understanding why an invisible sky-daddy harms us. The fact that Pat Robertson said that demonstrates a perfect reflection of what is wrong with religion. Christianity (or any deity worshiping belief-system) as oppose to atheism, really holds back human-understanding, and human-compassion. Pat Robertson probably believes that Japan deserves what happened to it because the majority of Japan is atheist. He made similar (as far as being delusional) statements after 9/11 and Katrina.
go go atheism! The only thing responsible for this disaster is the earth's geology. Believing that a conscious being is responsible, then searching for a way to continue to love this being (regardless how easy such a task is) out of a fear of hellfire can't be good for the well-being of any human.
