Take God off the money! (not just atheists should want this)

1in god we trust

"In God We Trust"

Many people brush those words off, ignoring their importance. The meaning behind words, especially on the national currency, should be looked at very carefully. I don't believe a person has to look too hard to see the underlying discrimination of the In God We Trust nonsense on the currency. Essentially it is a statement that claims that all that don't believe in God are not part of the "We". To have this on the currency directly implies that atheists are not part of this nation (and indirectly implies this of all non-Christians). This is a very serious violation of the separation of church and state. For our national currency to claim that those that don't "Trust" in God aren't among the "We" is very hateful in and of itself. Most people (atheists included) don't understand the importance behind the mere symbolism here. Christianity needs to be put in it's place, this is not a theocracy. It should not be just atheists that oppose this, but anyone with any sort of empathy should find In God We Trust to be very alienating, bigoted, and at least very hypocritical of our secular society. I personally believed that God would have been taken off the money by now. Atheists are going to need to make a lot of noise to get this wrong righted, luckily most atheists are not soft-spoken =D

If we fight hard enough, maybe we can get Darwin put on the money instead, like the British did (kidding). What the slogan should be is In The Constitution We Trust, or In Our Founders We Trust, etc. Secularize the slogan!
